Much of the carbon found in the grounds of the impact was turned into Carbon 60 (C60).
65 million years later the C60 is still there, and is still stable to this day.
C60 is a carbon molecule that is in the shape of a soccer ball. It is a member of the Fullerene family. Fullerenes are a new form of carbon, alongside diamond and graphite. Numerous studies from institutions all over the world* show that C60 is stable, and many derivatives have medically useful properties. Additionally it is also incredibly small. This allows it to pass through the blood brain barrier where some derivatives may help to treat brain disorders.
1984 - DISCOVERY OF C60
September 1984 at Rice University in Houston, Texas, Richard Smalley, Harry Kroto and Robert Curl recreated Fullerene 60 (C60), as found in nature. Richard went to CERN Switzerland many times to use the facility to verify this major breakthrough in nanotechnology in modern history.
1996 - NOBEL PRIZE
In 1996 Richard Smalley, Harry Kroto and Robert Curl were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their work to confirm the structure of C60, which they called buckminsterfullerene. Richard Smalley passed away in 2005. Before he passed he transferred his knowledge and experience to enable our group of scientists at Nano Genesis Labs.
